Does Mommy Have A Boyfriend?
Every single mom hears the question, whether they’re on Match or not. My daughter heard about it from one of her friends- I never though I could bottle up the world! But I did think it would take a little longer before she asked me if I had a boyfriend.
“Well,” I told her, “I’m making friends, right now.”
“Boyfriends?”
“Just friends.”
“You should have a boyfriend,” she said. “He can buy you food.”
I laughed. But I realized that even if I had been honest, I couldn’t have answered her question. I’ve been reeling from actually kissing James. At the same time, I don’t want to give up on Kurt. And if I’m honest with myself, I can’t pretend that James is my boyfriend. I may get as excited as a teenage girl, but I’m not as naive. I know that he has other opportunities.
The weird thing?
So do I.
Instead of answering my daughter’s question, we got ice cream. It’s still too cold for ice cream, but it was easier than figuring out the answer for her (and myself).
